destineering

Welcome!

My name is Denise Mosawi, and I want to tell you about Destineering and how a dinner party changed my life.

Life is a curious collection of little paths each one the result of a choice we've made, random events and chance encounters – all of which is played out in a finite amount of time. Most of the time we are too busy racing off to work and trying to get ahead that we don't have a chance to think too much about it.

That was my life a few years ago. I had what friends described as a "peach of a job" – a senior management position with one of the world's most recognized companies, Microsoft. It had been a long, hard climb up the corporate ladder and instead of feeling really proud, I actually felt a little restless and unfulfilled. I ached to do something different, but wasn't quite sure what. So I decided to take a break and travel to Australia and the Far East.

Late one night in Bali, I decided to toss a coin. Heads, I stayed in my comfortable job with all the trappings of success or, tails, I ditched the desk to go pursue my dream. As I watched the coin spin through the air, I knew what the answer was. I was so certain that I didn't check whether it was heads or tails. The very act of placing my future in the hands of luck had pushed me to decide what I really wanted.

To the cries of "Are you mad?!" I left my secure job, traveled, got married and eventually moved to Canada to become a ski instructor. Later I started a consulting firm. One evening, I remember turning to my husband and saying, " You know, when you're stuck in a position you just don't realize all the exciting opportunities that are out there – all the different things you can do with your life. We should create a web site!"

That was it. The idea that wouldn't go away.

I didn't know it at the time, but a dinner party would result in what I call my "Destineering Moment" – the moment when your talents, passion and purpose collide and it's crystal clear what you're supposed to be doing with your life. My husband had invited Dave Gotts over for dinner. I coaxed him to tell me his story, and then was touched by his dedication to the children of China.

I saw in a flash what it was I could do with my life – how I could use all the things I was talented at and had a real passion for and put them to good use and in the course of doing that, hopefully make a difference to others.

That's what Destineering is about – finding your passion and zeroing in on your talents, abilities, and purpose.
